The Grote Reber Medal is awarded by the Grote Reber Foundation, normally annually, to individuals of any nationality or country of residence for outstanding and innovative contributions to Radio Astronomy. The Medal has been awarded yearly since 2005.
QVMAG Manager of Sciences and History Martin George, who is also a Fellow and former President of the International Planetarium Society, administers the Medal on behalf of the Grote Reber Foundation and the QVMAG.
The 2012 winner of the Grote Reber Medal for Radio Astronomy is Professor Nicolay Kardashev, based in Russia. Kardashev's achievements in this field have been many fold, even extending to ideas about the energy requirement of alien civilisations.
