The Launceston Planetarium has reopened its doors at the Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery at Inveresk.

During the first two weeks of operation (13 to 26 October 2009 inclusive), the Planetarium is running free shows daily at 11 am, 2 pm and 4 pm. Tickets for the free shows become available at the front desk of the QVMAG at Inveresk one hour before the shows begin.

From Tuesday 27 October, the Planetarium's show times, until further notice, will be:

Tuesday to Friday 2.15 pm and 4.15 pm
Saturday 2.15 pm and 3.15 pm
Closed Sunday, Monday and public holidays

The show schedule will change from time to time, so we advise checking this web page for updates before your visit.

Admission prices are $5.00 for adults, $3.00 for children, and $13.00 for families of up to four people (maximum two adults per family ticket).

Please note that due to the nature of the show children under 5 are not admitted.

Temporary closures to public enquiries, collection access and research

The Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery is currently involved with several major projects at its Royal Park and Inveresk sites. These projects are part of exciting developments that will offer significant benefits to the community. They include work on the redevelopment of the Royal Park site, for example. This and other exciting projects will reshape the future identity of the Museum and its programs to the public.

A number of departments are directly involved in these development programs. As a result, we will have a reduced capacity to deal with public enquiries, the provision of access to a number of Museum collections and the provision of reproductions from those collections.

The Visual Arts and Design department, including the Fine Arts and Decorative Arts & Design collections, is closed for public enquiries, requests for the reproduction of collection images and for viewing and research access. The Fine Arts and the Decorative Arts staff will continue to assist with enquiries relating to:

· offers of objects for sale to the Museum
· offers of donations for consideration by the Museum

however there may be some delays in responding to these enquiries.

The Community History Centre remains open by 10 am - 1 pm Tuesday to Saturday.

Enquiries for Natural Sciences, including Zoology and Geology, remain open. However, people wishing to lodge specimens for identification or information should visit the Museum's Inveresk site.
