Zoological Project Localities

ABRS 1974-75

Funded by the Australian Biological Resources Study, this project aimed to document changes in the soil and litter fauna of wet forest following major disturbance. Five Eucalyptus obliqua sites in the Northwest were chosen to form a 'chronosequence' of fire-regenerated forest patches, with sites in the Northeast and Southeast sampled for comparative purposes. The investigators were John Hickman, John Madden, Lionel Hill and Alastair Richardson from the University of Tasmania, and the bulk of the collection was deposited in the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery.
 
On this page the primary spatial data (in bold) are UTM grid references based on information provided by Dean Tuson (Forestry Tasmania) and Lionel Hill. NW sites are known to be within the indicated 100 m grid squares. The other sites are only known to be within the indicated 1 km grid squares. Derived spatial data are full UTM grid references and lat/long for the centres of the indicated 100 m and 1 km squares. Precision is likely to be ±100 m around centres of 100 m grid squares, and ±500 m around centres of 1 km grid squares.
 
Note that the locations given here are based on the AGD66 datum. To convert these grid references to the system based on the GDA94 datum, add 112 m to eastings and 183 m to northings. To convert latitude/longitude to GDA94 (approximately equivalent to WGS84), subtract 5.4" from latitude and add 4.8" to longitude.
