Zoological Project Localities

LGRSS 1976-78

The Lower Gordon River Scientific Survey was organised and managed by the Hydro-Electric Commission of Tasmania. Climate, soils, geology, flora and fauna were investigated in river valleys to be affected by the proposed Gordon-below-Franklin dam project. The dam project was abandoned in 1983 following a nationwide conservation campaign and Commonwealth intervention. Politics aside, the LGRSS was the largest and best-documented scientific survey ever conducted in Tasmania, and generated a huge number of zoological samples and observations.

Locations for almost 1000 investigation sites have been compiled, together with relevant literature references, in a 104 kb PDF document. To download this PDF file, click here.
