Zoological Project Localities

MRHI etc. 1994-99

The National River Health Program includes three sampling projects in Tasmania: the Monitoring River Health Initiative (MRHI, 1993-1996), the First National Assessment of River Health (FNARH, 1997) and the Australia-Wide Assessment of River Health (1998-2000). Macroinvertebrates were sampled at stream sites in the northwest, north, northeast, east and south of the State. For a complete report on the Tasmanian projects, see www.ea.gov.au/water/rivers/nrhp/tas/index.html. Known collectors were Tom Krasnicki, Mark Nelson and David Oldmeadow.

Appendix 1 of the projects report lists 473 Tasmanian sampling sites and gives a 6-digit easting and 7-digit northing for each site, in most cases representing a 100 m grid square. An expanded and slightly edited version of Appendix 1 has been compiled as a PDF document (102 kb) for this website. To download the PDF file, click here. To the primary spatial data are added latitude/longitude and UTM grid references in 2-letter, 6-digit format. Lat/long was derived for the centre of the indicated 100 m grid square. In those cases where a more exact easting and northing seems to be given (last two digits 25, 50 or 75 rather than 00), lat/long is for the southwest corner of the indicated grid square.
