Holotype. Stadium V juvenile.
Locality. Mt Lofty, SA.
Collector, date. F. Silvestri, 16 April 1913 (Silvestri 1923: 5, 1948a: 303).
Deposited. '...possibly in the Silvestri type collection formerly housed at Portici, now moved to the Museum of Genoa...' (Short & Huynh 2006: 214). A recent search for the type by the Genoa collection curator was unsuccessful (M. Short, pers. comm. 19 February 2008).
Other records. Recorded from dry habitats in NSW, Qld, SA, Tas, Vic and WA (M. Short, unpublished data based on museum specimens).
Note. A female Phryssonotuswith 16 leg-pairs was collected at Mountain Creek, S of Buderim, Qld, on 4 November 1953 by E.N. Marks from rain forest leaf mould and deposited in GMNH. This specimen was tentatively referred to P. capensis (Silvestri, 1923), a South African species, by Condé & Nguyen Duy-Jacquemin (1984: 48).
