Note. Jeekel (1971: 200) notes that the name Marshallbolus had no status in nomenclature before 1960 because Verhoeff did not designate a type species. Hoffman & Keeton (1960: 16) say 'The heading 'Marshallbolus n.g. takakuwai n.sp.' appears in the explanation of the illustrations of the species on page 234, and this we construe to be an original designation of the type species.' Jeekel regards this sentence as subsequent designation of a type species and validation of the genus name.
