Amastigogonus fossuliger Verhoeff, 1944
Amastigogonus fossuliger Verhoeff 1944a: 43 (comparison with A. nichollsii),
44 (first description),
figs. 6-8, p. 32.
Amastigogonus fossuliger Jeekel 1981: 43. (In list of species recorded from eastern Australia.)
Syntypes. At least 1 male and 1 female.
Locality. Lake Leake, Tas.
Collector, date. Verhoeff (1936a: 14) thanks [G.E.] Nicholls, Professor of Biology at the University of Western Australia, for sending him Polydesmida from WA and from Lake Leake, Tas. It is likely that A. fossuliger was also sent to Verhoeff by Nicholls, who collected in Tasmania in 1928, 1929 and 1939 (Nicholls 1943: 143).
Deposited. No information yet.
Amastigogonus hardyi (Chamberlin, 1920)
Amastigogonus hardyi
Euethogonus hardyi Chamberlin 1920a: 166. (First description.)
Euethogonus hardyi Jeekel 1971: 109. (In genus catalogue as type of Euethogonus.)
Amastigogonus hardyi Hoffman 1972: 204; figs. 6-8, p. 206. (New combination; redescription, first illustrations of gonopods.) Amastigogonus hardyi Jeekel 1981: 43. (In list of species recorded from eastern Australia.)
Amastigogonus nichollsii
Amastigogonus nichollsii Verhoeff 1944a: 43 (comparisons with A. fossuliger and A. tasmanianus),
44 (first description),
figs. 1-5, p. 29.
Amastigogonus nichollsii Hoffman 1972: 204. (Synonymised with A. hardyi.)
Holotype. Male.
Locality. 'Tasmania'.
Collector, date. G.H. Hardy, probably in the period 1913-1915 (Mesibov 2002b: 536).
Deposited. MCZ; MCZ 4817 (Chamberlin 1920a: 166).
Other types. At least 1 female paratype, details as for holotype; MCZ, MCZ 4818 (Chamberlin 1920a: 166). A. nichollsii is represented by at least 1 male and 1 female syntype, collected on Mt Nelson, Tas, probably by G.E. Nicholls (see note under Amastigogonus fossuliger). ZMB holds a slide mount of male gonopods, ZMB 12642a (= Verhoeff collection slide 3777) (Moritz & Fischer 1978: 157) and 1 female syntype, ZMB 12642 (Moritz & Fischer 1974: 367).
