Peterjohnsia titan Shear & Mesibov, 1994

(Order Chordeumatida, family Peterjohnsiidae)

P. titan

This widespread chordeumatidan can be very hard to distinguish from Neocambrisoma spp., and positive identification can only be made by dissecting and examining the gonopods of mature males (click here for more on gonopods). In both genera adults reach 7-8 mm in length.

First collected in 1974, P. titan occurs in a wide range of forest types from sea level to ca. 1000 m. It has also been found in Pinus radiata plantations (Bonham et al. 2002).

Localities for P. titan. Scale bar = 100 km.
