Remarks:  An old QVM register gives the collecting date as 15 August 1974.  


Brachygalaxias pusillus flindersiensis   Scott, 1971a: 6.  Holotype.

Status:  Missing.

Published data:  'Described from 15 specimens from Lackrana, Flinders Island, Furneaux Group, Bass Strait, collected by Messrs R. and C. Rhodes, one example on 4 June, 1969, the remainder part of a series from the same locality, collected 3 July, 1969...' (Scott 1971a: 7)
Remarks:  Listed as missing in Green (1974). Scott (1971a) gives the registration number as 1969:5:0025a, and an old QVM register gives the collecting date as 30 June 1969. No evidence has been found to indicate which date is correct for the holotype specimen.  


Brachygalaxias pusillus tasmaniensis   Scott, 1971a: 6.  Holotype.

Published data:  'Described from 14 specimens: 2 from a soak from a dam flowing towards the coast (northward) on Marengo, Waterhouse Estate, Dorset, Tasmania, collected by Mr A.M.D. Hewer, March 1964, kept alive by Mr B.C. Mollison till 26 September 1964; 12 from a series from the same locality...collected by Mr A.M.D. Hewer, Mr B.C. Mollison and Mr D. Smith, 17 October, 1964.' (Scott 1971a: 5)
Remarks:  Scott (1971a) says that the largest specimen was chosen as the holotype, but does not indicate whether this was from the March or October collection. An old QVM register suggests the holotype was collected in March.  


Breona greeni   Scott, 1967: 212.  Holotype female.

Remarks:  Bottled with paratypes, holotype not distinguished. An old QVM register gives the collecting date as 29 September 1966, but Green (1974: 5) gives the collecting date as 4 May 1966.

Published data:  In cavity in root of eucalypt stump blown out of ground 23 December 1932, West Ulverstone, Tasmania, 8 January 1933, F. Cleaver. (Kept alive by Cleaver, sent alive to QVM on 4 April 1933.)

Galaxias johnstoni   Scott, 1936a: 92.  Holotype, described as Galaxias (Galaxias) johnstoni.

Status:  In alcohol.

Published data:  Tasmania. 'Creek crossing the Hobart-Queenstown road, about three and three-quarter miles westward from Nive Bridge' (Scott 1936a: 94), 31 March 1934, E.O.G. Scott.
Remarks:  It is not currently clear whether 31 March 1934 is the collecting or accession date. The original specimen label (if any) is missing.  


Galaxias scopus   Scott, 1936a: 95.  Holotype.

Status:  In alcohol.

Published data:  'Clarke Island, Bass Strait. Holotype from a "small brackish-water stream, running very slowly indeed in hot summers, and forming a six feet deep by 400 yards long lagoon at the mouth", the specimen being caught on the 18th January 1935, "about 100 yards above this creek-lagoon in a rocky pool, making the distance from the sea just over a quarter of a mile"; (Mr. A. Maclaine).' (Scott 1936a: 97)

Galaxias upcheri   Scott, 1942c: 51.  Holotype.

Remarks:  Listed as missing in Green (1974). Two types of upcheri are registered as 1971:5:0024 (old type number 72) and 1971:5:0025 (73). An old QVM register records both as paratypes from Dover.

Remarks:  Four specimens were originally deposited as 1970:5:0025, of which the largest is the holotype.  


Ophiclinus greeni   Scott, 1936b: 114.  Holotype.

Status:  Missing.

Remarks:  Listed as missing in Green (1974). The holotype was collected on 17 January 1934.  


Paragalaxias shannonensis   Scott, 1935a: 41.  Holotype.

Status:  Missing.

Published data:  'Shannon River, Tasmania. Three specimens collected on 3rd December 1933, remainder (about a score) between 29th March and 2nd April 1934: all from two small beds of water-weed (Potamegeton sp.), one situated about two or three yards, the other about forty yards, below the road-bridge over the Shannon between the Great Lake hydro-electric dam at Miena and the Shannon Lagoon.' (Scott 1935a: 45)
Remarks:  Listed as missing in Green (1974).  


Parascyllium multimaculatum   Scott, 1935c: 63.  Holotype male.

Status:  Missing.

Remarks:  Listed as missing in Green (1974). Scott (1935c) says he examined the fresh specimen, and that the mounted holotype was presented to QVM by G.R.F. Green.  


Pataecus armatus   Johnston, 1891: 33.  Neotype. Redescribed by Scott (1936b): 125) as Pataecus (Aetapcus) armatus.

Remarks:  Scott (1936b: 127) discusses the history of the name and says 'Johnston's specimen has been lost, and no further examples appear to have been met with since.' QVM records give the locality as 'somewhere off Tamar River Heads'.  


Saxilaga anguilliformis   Scott, 1936a: 106.  Holotype, described as Saxilaga (Saxilaga) anguilliformis.

Syngnathus mollisoni   Scott, 1955: 131.  Holotype.

Syngnathus tuckeri   Scott, 1942b: 17.  Holotype male.

Tasmanogobius lordi   Scott, 1935b: 56.  Holotype.

Status:  In alcohol.

Published data:  Tasmania. 'Mouth of the River Leven.' (Scott 1935b: 60).
Remarks:  An old QVM register gives the collecting date as 9 August 1934. 'Not uncommon, in association with Nesogobius hinsbyi, in sandy pools formed by the retreating tide behind the retaining wall near the breakwater, West Ulverstone.' (Scott 1935b: 60).


Frogs 

Hyla aurea major   Copland, 1957: 79.  Holotype.

Hyla burrowsi   Scott, 1942a: 7.  Holotype male.

Status:  Missing.

Published data:  Tasmania. '...from pond near Wombat Tarn, between Lake Lilla and Crater Lake, 15th January, 1941, approximate altitude 3300 feet.' (Scott 1942: 9); M. Burrows.
Remarks:  Listed as missing in Green (1974), together with the female paratype originally registered as 1941.42. In a jar with 'QVM 89' marked on the lid and 'FROGS TYPE H. BURROWSI SCOTT' and '1971/4/3' marked on the side is a dried-out frog string-tagged as follows: 'Allotype [female symbol] 1941.40 Hyla burrowsi Loc. pond near Dove Lake Cradle Reserve // Approx alt 3100 ft Desc by Scott Records Q.V. Mus L'ton Vol. 1 Number 1 1942 p5'. A second jar has two frogs in alcohol, both string-tagged. The tag on one says 'Hyla burrowsi [male symbol] 1942.271 Cradle Valley Miss M. Burrows'. The tag has torn from the second frog; it says 'Hyla burrowsi 1942.38 Cradle Valley Miss M. Burrows'. A loose tag in the second jar says '1960/4/0007' These two specimens are evidently later collections.

Published data:  'Cotype 4', skull of male estimated to be 12 years, from Cooee, Tasmania; 'cotype 5', skull of male estimated to be 10 1/2 - 11 years, from north coast of Tasmania; 'cotype 7', skull and skin of male estimated to be 8 - 9 years, from Scamander, Tasmania; 'cotype 8', skull of male estimated to be 5 years, from northern Tasmania [Scott & Lord (1926) say '(Barren Joey?)']; 'cotype 10', skull of female, Tamar Heads, Tasmania.
Remarks:  '...and in this work as no Holotype could be readily selected a series of ten Co-types has been created with four associated skulls, of which five are the property of the Tasmanian Museum and five belong to the Launceston Museum.' (Scott & Lord 1926: 191). QVM also holds 'cotype 9' as 1957.1.0016. This is the skull of a female estimated to be 8 years from Bicheno, Tasmania, and was originally registered at the Tasmanian Museum as D746.
