Originally from Sydney, Mandy first travelled to Tasmania to complete the final year of her education degree in the 1980s, intending to return to the big smoke with her degree in hand. But with no guarantee of a job back in Sydney she decided to stay on a bit longer. As a cash strapped fourth year student living at Kerslake Hall, she had not experienced all Tasmania had to offer. The Launceston lifestyle and a yearning to see more of the state enticed her to stay on. Over 30 years later Mandy is still here having clocked up almost enough years to call herself a local.
After graduating in the 1980s, Mandy spent 10 years working in education, including a wonderful eight-year term as a teacher at Sacred Heart Launceston and three years as a Scotch Oakburn Boarding House tutor.
In her spare time she developed an interest in the emerging community radio station, 7LTN FM (now firmly established as City Park Radio). She became a volunteer presenter and programmer and was on the station's management committee for several years. This introduction to radio inspired a career change and launched a journey into the media spanning almost 30 years.
After working for ABC Northern Tasmania as Saturday Breakfast presenter for six years she became a news journalist on commercial radio (7LA as it was then). During her 15 years with the station, she had various roles on and off air. One of her career highlights was winning a national ACRA (Australian Commercial Radio Award) for best talk show in regional Australia in 2010.
Her love of the arts attracted her to Theatre North. Mandy joined the committee and chaired the organisation for a number of years before joining Theatre North in 2011 as Marketing Manager. She was appointed the role of GM in 2017.
