National Science Week is back at QVMAG from 11-17 August 2018 and we're celebrating with a packed program of science-related fun for you to get involved in.

This is your chance to go interplanetary with Josh Richards who might be heading to Mars, or go mad with the Crazy Scientist.

Maybe you want to pan for gold or see some of the Museum's most precious minerals.

Find out about sciences game changers and change makers. How about getting too know our eight-legged friends at the Spiders exhibition? There's lots happening at QVMAG!

MAIN EVENTS

Big Day of Science, Saturday 11 August
Find out about the science that supports our everyday lives. Meet experts from the Steminists, Tamar NRM, NRM North, TasWater, Fishcare, City of Launceston and the University of Tasmania, as well as our own QVMAG specialists. There will be lots of entertainment and interactives for the kids, including QVMAG's Change your game! centre, Crazy Scientist shows and the Spiders exhibition.

The QVMAG Friends are putting on a day of geology fun and discovery. The kids can pan for gold and break open rocks to find real fossils, while the adults can hear about northern Tasmania's forgotten mining history and the ancient geological forces that created Cataract Gorge. Plus, you can explore QVMAG's Game Changers and Change Makers centre, see the Crazy Scientist shows and Spiders exhibition.

Nights at the Museum, Wednesday 15 and Friday 17 August
Night at the Museum has been very popular with young families in the past, so make sure you join the fun! Check out the darkened galleries, investigate the night sky, and see the Crazy Scientist show, a planetarium show and the Spiders exhibition. Kids, come dressed as your favourite spider!

On Wednesday there will be a talk on Tasmanian spiders by John Douglas, an authority on the subject, and on Friday night there will be a talk on the discovery of helium by Martin George, Planetarium Manager.
