The Enquiring Light: Angela Casey

Angela Casey

This exhibition is now closed.

Displayed at the Queen Victoria Art Gallery from 20 April 2019 to 22 September 2019.

Cross over the threshold into a world created by artist Angela Casey, where museum objects emerge from their cases to tell tales of love, spiritualism, death and the paranormal.

Born and raised in Launceston, Casey was mesmerised by the displays at the Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery, a fascination that never faded as an adult. She found the objects and dioramas irresistible and wanted to know more about what went on behind the scenes. Throughout an art practice that has spanned 25 years, Casey has shone her enquiring light upon the secret life of objects from private and public collections around Tasmania.

Emerging from a mysterious black space, the artist’s witty and careful still life compositions elevate these objects to take on new identities and meanings. Angela Casey reimagines some of Tasmania’s oldest and most valuable collections to remind us that our objects have more than one story to tell.
