The Artist and the Collection | Barbie Kjar, Jennifer Marshall, Milan Milojevic

This iteration of the Artist and the Collection exhibition series focuses on three Tasmanian artists, all well-known printmakers.

Each artist has created a new body of work inspired by, and often directly referencing, works from the visual and decorative arts collections.

The exhibition charts these individual responses to the much admired and well known works of colonial artists John Glover and WB Gould and contemporary Indigenous artist Lola Greeno. It aligns these contemporary responses alongside the works that have inspired them. Rather than inhibiting or overwhelming, these iconic Tasmanian colonial works of art have provided inspiration and contemporary creative opportunities.

The exhibition also invites exploration of the role of the artist as a mediator between audiences and art museum collections.
