The book Sea Country is a collaboration between two proud Pairrebeenne/Tarwlwoolway women, Aunty Patsy Cameron and illustrator Lisa Kennedy. It tells the story of Aunty Patsy Cameron as a young child on Flinders Island in the 1950s and explores her relationships with Country and community through the seasonal changes of a year.

Lisa Kennedy’s illustrations draw inspiration from botanical drawing and colonial artists’ journals reflecting seasonal changes of mood and lighting in sky, cloud, mist and sea, and the movement of intertidal and deep-sea waters, layering personal, physical and cultural space. She creates spaces with the textural and structural qualities that a child likes to inhabit.

This exhibition is an invitation to share and participate in a family narrative that continues to pass on cultural stories.
