From families and schools to adults eager to explore the realms of science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM)—our 2024 program promises a gateway to discovery and exploration for all ages to delve into this year’s Science Week theme: Species Survival – More than just sustainability.  

Science Week for Schools 

Monday 12 August to Friday 16 August, Museum at Inveresk

The QVMAG Science Week for Schools program offers the opportunity for northern Tasmanian classes to become laboratory technicians, with students delving into hands-on learning opportunities and demonstrations that bring scientific principles to life.

FREE: The BIG Day of Science

Saturday 10 August,  10am to 4pm, Museum at Inveresk 

Our popular annual Big Day of Science at the Museum at Inveresk offers endless opportunity for discovery, unravelling the mysteries of the universe through interactive exhibits, workshops, and science-themed activities. 2024 welcomes live zoo tours with Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary in the Nuala O’Flaherty Auditorium, live demonstrations to get up close and personal with the residents of the Tasmanian Reptile Park, interactive play spaces with the Sustainability Learning Centre, the beloved Make It Place craft station where you’ll unleash your creativity, feature films in the Launceston Planetarium, and interactive workshops with Tasmania’s Mobile Antarctic Classroom where you’ll learn about animal species and climate change, alongside playing with a live snow machine!  

FREE: Science in the Pub trivia night at DuCane Brewery

Wednesday 14 August, 6.30pm to 8pm, DuCane Brewery Launceston

2024 will welcome back the popular Science in the Pub trivia night with QVMAG. Get set to test your knowledge on everything - from molecular biology and chemicals, to space and extreme science! Grab a drink and a bite to eat as we settle in for an evening of science trivia fun.
