Join Launceston textile artist Joanna Anglesey for a unique creative experience where art and nature converge.

In this hands-on workshop, participants will explore the fascinating technique of needle felting to create richly textured artworks. Drawing inspiration from the Wildlife Photographer of the Year 60 exhibition, you’ll learn how to translate captivating wildlife moments into felted masterpieces.

Begin your journey by wandering through the exhibition to absorb the beauty of animals and landscapes, then recreate one of the featured images using felting and mixed-media techniques. This workshop offers a chance to enhance your artistic skills while exploring how textiles can be used to depict the natural world in imaginative and expressive ways.

Whether you're a seasoned maker or new to textile arts, this session invites you to connect with nature through creative exploration.

About the artist

Joanna Anglesey is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice spans, textiles, painting, and drawing. She trained in Hobart, Adelaide, and Launceston, developing a richly diverse artistic foundation.

In 2013, Joanna completed a PhD exploring social and environmental critique through ephemeral public installations—transforming everyday spaces into thought-provoking experiences. Her work is deeply rooted in community engagement and creative collaboration.

Joanna currently coordinates Creative Connections at Interweave Arts, where she fosters inclusive and expressive art-making every Tuesday. She remains an active contributor to community art projects, bringing people together through creativity and shared purpose.

About the exhibition

Ignite curiosity about the natural world as Wildlife Photographer of the Year returns exclusively to QVMAG in Tasmania.

The world-renowned exhibition, now in its sixtieth year and on loan from the Natural History Museum in London, features exceptional images that capture fascinating animal behaviour, spectacular species and the breathtaking diversity of the natural world.

Using photography's unique emotive power to engage and inspire audiences, the images shine a light on stories and species around the world and encourage a future of advocating for the planet.
