School groups can take self-guided tours of both QVMAG sites, book guided tours, enjoy workshops and visit our Planetarium

All QVMAG education programs are carefully aligned to the Australian Curriculum. Educators can tailor guided tours to meet students individual learning requirements.

School bookings

Bookings are essential for all groups visiting QVMAG. This allows us to manage the number of students onsite, access to galleries and exhibitions, and provide the best educational experience for all students. 

Our qualified education officers can facilitate a range of programs aligned with the curriculum. Please submit booking requests at least two weeks prior to your preferred excursion date.

Art Gallery — Conversations

Join the QVMAG team for a hosted session to explore Tasmanian Connections. This exhibition features a range of Tasmanian natural science and history displays, from geological timelines to colonial and bushranger artefacts to transport and even dinosaurs.

Art Gallery — Wildlife Photographer of the Year

From 9 June 2025 to 5 September 2025.

Take a self-guided tour to explore Wildlife Photographer of the Year. The world-renowned exhibition, now in its sixtieth year and on loan from the Natural History Museum in London, features exceptional images that capture fascinating animal behaviour, spectacular species and the breathtaking diversity of the natural world.

Museum — Six Extinctions

Museum at Inveresk, 2 Invermay Road, Inveresk, Launceston
From 15 March 2025 to 17 August 2025

Take a self-guided tour to explore Six Extinctions. This exhibition is exclusive to QVMAG in Tasmania and explores the mass extinction level events that changed the world. Come face-to-face with some of the most formidable predators of each era - including a life-size replica of the largest Tyrannosaurus rex ever found. 

Additional fees apply for Six Extinctions bookings:

  • Admission fee: $5 per student 
  • Adult-to-child ratio applied to all bookings as 1:5 (Kinder–Grade 2) and 1:10 (Grades 3–12). Additional tickets must be booked for educators/supervisors above this ratio.
