The annual K-6 student art exhibition ArtStart has opened at the Art Gallery at Royal Park, showcasing works in response to NAIDOC Week 2022.

Designed to encourage children's participation in the visual arts, ArtStart provides an opportunity for pupils in kindergarten to grade six across Northern Tasmania to have their work displayed at the Art Gallery as part of this popular annual exhibition.

The theme for ArtStart 2022 is based on the NAIDOC theme Get up! Stand up! Show up! and visually explores the creative practice of pupils across painting, drawing, mixed media and more.

Launceston Mayor Albert van Zetten said ArtStart was an annual favourite for locals across northern Tasmania.

'It's brilliant to see the creative minds of students across Northern Tasmania as part of the ArtStart exhibition each year,' Mayor van Zetten said.

'It's certainly one of my favourite exhibitions to visit, particularly to see how pupils respond to the creative theme and use this as an outlet for creativity.

'I encourage everyone to visit this exhibition and support our young artists of Northern Tasmania on display within this exhibition and read the stories of inspiration behind their work.'

ArtStart is now showing at the Art Gallery at Royal Park and will be on display until Friday, September 30.

Issued 29 July 2022.
