Curators to explore art, history, science

 

This August, the Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery will welcome back the popular Curator in the Pub series across Launceston.  

Set at two popular venues across the CBD, this free event series will see talks held at both Du Cane Brewery and the Kingsway Bar broaching a broach range of subjects such as art, history and science.  

This years’ talk series will have visitors exploring the history behind their family heirlooms, hearing the history behind strange objects discovered in global archaeology digs and learning about the history of skulls featured in art. 

As special additions to the 2023 line-up, Launceston locals will also enjoy two feature events including a history pub crawl through Launceston’s CBD and an in-conversation event with artists from QVMAG’s latest exhibition RISE; featuring 10 of Tasmania’s most collectable emerging artists. 

City of Launceston Mayor Matthew Garwood said the talk series was an innovative and engaging way to explore the world of QVMAG with other locals.

“The Curators in the Pub series is a fantastic way to learn about the world around us with the team from QVMAG,” Mayor Garwood said. 

“This will be a wonderful series for those looking for a fun, mid-week evening event in Launceston’s CBD throughout August.

“I encourage everyone to make the most of this popular event series—it's a guaranteed sell-out experience.”

General Manager Creative Arts and Cultural Services Shane Fitzgerald said the popular series offered a great way for the institution to connect with audiences across Launceston.  

 “Following the success of the 2022 Curator in the Pub series, our team are looking forward to hosting a new range of talks this year across the City,” Fitzgerald said.  

“This series is the perfect opportunity for our team to share their knowledge on a range of topics in a fun, conversational environment. 

“Our team has had a great time putting this series together and we look forward to Launceston joining us this August.”
