Deliciously deceptive: faux food fun awaits

This weekend will see the Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery launch into its annual fun-filled Children's Week program, starting with a special workshop for grandparents and grandchildren to create deliciously deceptive faux food.

This intergenerational workshop celebrates both Seniors Week and Children's Week, with participants working on their own buffet of creativity on the day with a range of vibrant, supplied materials.

City of Launceston Mayor Matthew Garwood said the 2025 Children's Week program is a great way for families to get creative and enjoy a fun day out at QVMAG.

"It's awesome to continually see QVMAG be a gateway to creativity for so many kids in our community," Mayor Garwood said.

"We really aim to make sure there is a vibrant lineup of events for families to enjoy each year across the Museum and Art Gallery sites - and celebrations for Children's Week 2025 are stacking up to be another great, fun offering for northern Tasmanian families.

"I can't wait to see the Toddler Science events in action - it's such a great way to connect our collection with young minds, and who knows, even inspire the next wave of Tassie scientists."

QVMAG Leader of Learning and Engagement, Megan Dick said the 2025 Children's Week program at QVMAG was packed with fun just waiting to be explored.

"There's never a dull day when you're role is focused on creating new, interactive and engaging experiences for families," Dick said.

"Each year we aim to design a packed program of formal and informal experiences for our community and visitors, and Children's Week is a great example of that.

"Our goal is to always connect audiences with our collection and engage young minds with the world of QVMAG through exploration, play and creativity. We love hearing the positive feedback from visitors after each event - nothing beats it.
