One epic big day of science discovery at QVMAG
Families across northern Tasmania are in for one jam-packed day of fun with the Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery's BIG Day of Science on Saturday 22 August.
With free entry from 10am to 4pm at the Museum at Inveresk (2 Invermay Road), visitors can make the most of a blend of free and ticketed family-fun pop-up activities.
Whether youngsters are interested in quantum and dark matter, playing with robots, getting creative with pop up activity stations, transforming into a bug with free face painting, grabbing a bite to eat or drink from the Devil's Donuts and Brewed Bliss vans, or catching a live show in the Planetarium - there will be plenty of entertainment to keep busy minds active for hours.
City of Launceston Mayor Matthew Garwood said this was one day out for curious young minds that should not be missed.
"Every year I love to see what events QVMAG deliver as part of Science Week celebrations," Mayor Garwood said.
"It's been awesome to see this year's program be so popular already. Whether you'll be joining us as part of our popular Science Week for Schools program for northern Tasmanian educators, you've nabbed a free ticket to our sold out Science Pub Trivia Night at Du Cane Brewery, or you'll be visiting us for the jam-packed BIG Day of Science for families at the Museum - I think it's safe to say, from the response we're seeing so far this year, that Launnie absolutely loves Science Week."
QVMAG Director Jonathan McBurnie said the 2026 Science Week line up at the Museum is going to be a day out like no other for families.
"Our team loves developing our line-up of events for Science Week each year – it's just as just as much fun for us to develop this program, as much as it is for our community heading along to the events!", McBurnie said.
"There's nothing better than finding new ways each year to bring the national Science Week theme to life through events such as our pub trivia, the Big Day of Science and our week-long Science Week for Schools program that welcomes schools from across northern Tasmania to join in with science education.
"Our Big Day of Science is going to be an unmissable day out at the Museum for families. I'd encourage everyone to make the most out of events on the day and explore what we've got on offer.
"Get hands on with fun pop-up activity stations, book into available workshops with Tassie's Robot Man and the Quantum and Dark Matter Roadshow, enjoy the food and drink vans on site, explore shows in the Planetarium, or enjoy transforming into a bug with our free face painting station - however you choose to celebrate Science Week this year, we've got something waiting for you at QVMAG."
The BIG Day of Science is on offer from 10am to 4pm on Saturday 22 August at the Queen Victoria Museum at Inveresk (2 Invermay Road), with free entry.
