Join our Tiny Knitting Circles and knit a frog to contribute to the Anatomy Lessons exhibition at the Museum at Inveresk

Contribute to the Anatomy Lessons exhibition at the Museum at Inveresk with your own knitted frog.

In her sculpture The Last Plague, artist Michele Beevors features black and white frogs as an epitaph for the mass loss of these creatures worldwide due to human intervention.

You are warmly invited to add your own creation to the sculpture, in any colours you wish.

Feel free to:

  • Knit at home, using the provided worksheet.
  • Knit on site in the QVMAG Friends Lounge during opening hours: 10am–4pm (excluding Fridays) between 6 May and 6 June. Yarn and needles are available , or you may bring your own.
  • Join one of our free guided Tiny Knitting Circles, led by Edwina Brown (QVMAG Friends committee member). These relaxed sessions are open to all skill levels – from first‑time knitters to experienced makers – and perfect if you are seeking guidance, encouragement, or company.

Book your Tiny Knitting Circles guided session:

By the end of the session, you’ll be on your way to creating a frog that can become part of the Anatomy Lessons exhibition.

Once your amphibious creation is finished, simply deliver your frog into the “Completed Frogs” basket in the QVMAG Friends Lounge at the Museum at Inveresk.

Alternatively, you're welcome to join us on Friday 22 May at 11am, when all frogs will be added to the display.

About the exhibition

Striking and ethereal, Anatomy Lessons features life-sized skeletons meticulously sculpted and hand-knitted to haunting effect, inviting us to reflect on our place within the fragile web of life and death.

Created by artist Michele Beevors, Anatomy Lessons is a quiet, tactile protest – a gentle but powerful call to recognise the violence humans inflict upon other animals, and to reconsider the patterns of behaviour that sustain it.
