Book your next classroom excursion at the Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery.

Discover a wide range of immersive education experiences at the Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery for your classroom in 2026.

With hosted and self-guided tours on offer, each program invites students to explore beyond the classroom through hands‑on, inquiry‑rich encounters across visual art and design, natural sciences, and history.

Offering both curriculum-linked and informal learning experiences spanning years K–12, simply mix-and-match a blend of offerings from our program to create your own curated day of exploration. Or, chat with us to create a bespoke offering tailored for your school.

With two locations to explore – the Museum at Inveresk and the Art Gallery at Royal Park – school groups can take self-guided tours of both QVMAG sites, book guided tours, enjoy workshops and visit our Planetarium

School bookings

Bookings are essential for all groups visiting QVMAG. This allows us to manage the number of students onsite, access to galleries and exhibitions, and provide the best educational experience for all students. 

Our qualified education officers can facilitate a range of programs aligned with the curriculum. Please submit booking requests at least two weeks prior to your preferred excursion date. 

Booking administration fee: $12 per group

Applies to all bookings. Adult to child ratio applied to all bookings as 1:5 (Kinder–Grade 2) and 1:10 (Grades 312)

 

Planetarium show   

Explore the expanse of the universe at the Launceston Planetarium.

$6 per student + booking fee

Join our Planetarium officers to learn about the wonders of space. 

Available for Grades 3-12.

Full-dome film session

Enjoy a show on our full-dome screen with a viewing of the current night sky, led by our Planetarium officers. Please note: $9 per additional adult applies when over ratio of 1:5 (Kinder–Grade 2) and 1:10 (Grades 3–12).

Art Gallery — Sam Jinks || Mortal Reflections

Art Gallery at Royal Park, 2 Wellington Street, Launceston
Available until exhibition closure on 11 May 2026.

Join the QVMAG team for a hosted session exploring the fascinating thematic content and exquisite craftsmanship of Sam Jinks || Mortal ReflectionsRenowned as a hyper-realist sculptor, Jinks’ practice reflects upon deeply felt moments of our lived experience.

Available for Year 11 and 12 only. 

 Advisory: This exhibition contains adult themes and nudity.

Museum — On the Tracks - Primary

Museum at Inveresk, 2 Invermay Road, Inveresk, Launceston
During term, throughout 2026

Let the QVMAG Education team guide your classroom through a historical journey of transport in Tasmania. On this guided walking tour at the Museum, students will learn about the fascinating transport history of Launceston, Tasmania, and how much of it happened at the site of the Museum at Inveresk.

This experience is for Prep to Year 6.

Museum or Art Gallery — Visual Art: Exploring and Responding - Primary & Secondary

Museum at Inveresk (2 Invermay Road, Inveresk) or Art Gallery at Royal Park (2 Wellington Street, Launceston)
During term, throughout 2026

Enjoy a guided tour of current* art exhibitions at either the Museum or Art Gallery with the QVMAG Education team. In this 45-minute walk-and-talk tour, students are encouraged to join the conversation, encouraging their critical thinking and analysis skills

*Workshops will vary in location and content according to current exhibitions. Please contact our team for further information.

Museum — The Science of Sound - Primary

Museum at Inveresk, 2 Invermay Road, Inveresk, Launceston
During term throughout 2026

Join QVMAG's Education Officers to discover how we can hear, see and feel sound! We'll examine concepts such as vibration and sound waves, exploring how sound travels. Students will also create their own musical instruments from craft materials in this 50-minute hands-on workshop.

This experience is for years Prep to Grade 6.

 

Museum — Incredible Insects - Primary

Museum at Inveresk, 2 Invermay Road, Inveresk, Launceston
During term, throughout 2026

Uncover the amazing hidden superpowers of the insect world. In this 50-minute hands-on workshop led by QVMAG’s Education Officers, primary school students will learn about insect features, life cycles, adaptations and habitats before creating their own crafty critters to take home.

This experience is for years Prep to Grade 6.

 

Museum — Incredible Insects - Secondary

Museum at Inveresk, 2 Invermay Road, Inveresk, Launceston
During term, throughout 2026

Dive into the amazing world of insects in this in this 50-minute hands-on workshop for high school students. Led by the QVMAG Education team, this immersive workshop will have students exploring insect evolution and what the bug world might like in 10, 100 or 1000 years' time.

This experience is for grades 7 to 10.

 

Museum — Tracks and Traces - Primary

Museum at Inveresk, 2 Invermay Road, Inveresk, Launceston
During term, throughout 2026

In this fun and hands on workshop with the QVMAG Education team, students will learn all about our native animals and discover how to identify and track them using clues like scats and footprints.

This experience is for Prep to Year 6.

 

Museum or Art Gallery — Visual Art: Creating and Making - Primary & Secondary

Museum at Inveresk (2 Invermay Road, Inveresk) and Art Gallery at Royal Park (2 Wellington Street, Launceston).

During term, throughout 2026

Foster your students’ art skills in this hands-on workshop at either the Museum at Inveresk or Art Gallery at Royal Park. Guided by the QVMAG Education team, students will create works in response to current exhibitions and displays.

This workshop begins with a short-hosted session within an exhibition space, followed by a hands-on make-and-create session in the QVMAG Creativity Centre.

Workshops will vary in location and content according to current exhibitions. Please contact for further information.

Take a self-guided tour to explore The First Tasmanians: our story, documenting the history and culture of the Tasmanian Aboriginal people.

Art Gallery — Billy Missi'n Wakain Thamai

Art Gallery at Royal Park, 2 Wellington Street, Launceston

Available during school terms from 7 March 2026 to 31 May 2026.

Take a self-guided tour to explore the touring exhibition Billy Missi'n Wakain Thamai, featuring diverse forms of printmaking by artist Billy Missi and a film, presenting an immersive experience into contemporary Torres Strait Islander culture and customs.

Available for Prep to Year 12.

Take a self-guided tour and discover new exhibitions, or revisit long-term displays such as Tasmanian Connections, Blacksmith Shop and Transforming the Island: railways in Tasmania.
