In Travis Ridler’s bold and expressive portrait, The Man in the Yellow Hat, faces become storytelling landscapes—marked by wrinkles, expression, and the unseen life behind the eyes. Using graphic markers, he merges realism with caricature to spotlight individuality, emotion, and presence.

Having recently moved from South Africa, Travis draws upon a rich cultural background to inform his character-driven portraits. His process exaggerates features to focus viewer attention, offering a striking balance of stylisation and humanity.

“It’s an honour to be included in ArtRage," Travis said. I hope people can feel the emotion in my work.”

Travis plans to keep creating and sharing his art, giving back to the communities that have supported him.

Reflecting on his experience, Travis' advice for TCE students is: “Find your own style. Don’t copy others—make art that’s fun and true to you.”
